Hydro projects and methane generation

Some detail on why hydro is not as clean as it seems.

Sure, hydro burns no fossil fuels, but the dams do produce significant amounts of carbon dioxide and methane (in some cases more than burning fossil fuels) through the decay of the vegetation in the basin which holds the dam’s reservoir.

    Fascinating – I had no idea.

    I have read plenty of stuff that bemoans the loss of ecosystem services with the construction of mega-hydro power schemes, but this is the first time I have encountered this argument.
